Bookshop Love

Bookshop Love I have grown up loving bookshops. I have so many lovely memories of bookshops, bookstalls and even book sales in the old library. I always feel better for a visit to a bookstore. All those lovely books waiting to be read, all in one place! I tell myself I am only looking. That I do not need to buy another book. Who am I kidding? I used to go with my dad to our old library to the Discarded book sale. Most books were hardbacks and were 10p or 5p. I would look through every stand and bring about 5 or 6 home with me, the word Discarded in pen across the first page. The summer fairs at various schools had fab book stalls too.  I loved our town library and visited regularly with my parents as a child. I loved choosing the books and getting them stamped. It was such a lovely atmosphere, downstairs in the children's library, especially after school in winter, all cosy, curled up with a book. I loved both my school libraries. Our secondary school library was a magical place an

Paddington Bear

Paddington Bear I have just watched the Platinum Jubilee sketch with our beloved Queen having tea with Paddington Bear and I got all emotional again! It was one of the highlights of the Jubilee weekend, a surprise for everyone and heartwarmingly nostalgic. Lovely memories of this little bear with a blue duffle coat and a suitcase have come flooding back. I can hear the narrator's voice from the 80s even.  I really enjoyed the sketch with the Queen smiling and getting her marmalade sandwiches out of her bag. If Pooh bear is jars of honey then Paddington is marmalade sandwiches! I mean, you never know when there will be such an emergency! I would have Marmite sandwiches though! This is such a lovely illustration too from pinterest. They both look so happy. Look at all those marmalade sandwiches he is stuffing into his suitcase! When we were growing up in the 70s and 80s, there were a few famous bears. Winnie the Pooh, Rupert and Paddington being three of the beloved bears we read ab

Bring it on! Bring what on? I hear you say. Well, I'm not really sure but bring it on anyway! Three powerful words to help you move forward, to get started again when you have been coasting through life for a bit. And not the kind of coasting done in an open top down Florida Keys!  Sometimes, we need to face life head on. Other times, we can go hide away for a bit or just watch it pass us by. Three small words but said together, they hold much meaning. No more coasting and letting life slide by. No more 'we'll seeing'. We can easily get caught up in letting things happen, standing by on the sidleines of our own lives. We forget what it felt like to have some control.  Everyone has so many plans then life happens. I suppose it is making detours and reversing then getting lost. We may look like we know where we are going but inside we are hoping the Sat nav will guide us. We do, at times, need to be our own Sat Nav, listen to our own inner voices. Not just listen to

What happens in book club!

What happens in book club! I am so proud of our little book club Suzy's Books and Brews. So pleased with how it is growing and developing that I felt I needed to write a blog about it! When I first started thinking about properly starting a club, I never dreamed it would be this lovely! And that is down to you lovely people who interact virtually on social media and those who meet up and share your love of books. Love this from Zazzle on pinterest! I had wanted to start a book club for so long. I had been a member of some lovely book clubs and was inspired to start my own. It started as a conversation in the Old George coffee house with lovely friends who spurred me on to start one virtually, on facebook. I set it up and posted a few book recommendations and quotes and it grew from there.  A book club is only as good as its members and they are amazing! I appreciate every quote and book shared and every lovely comment. I have added to my To Be Read pile so much! Not that it needs a
